To protect Astor Agency members and the public, especially the frail, elderly and sick, it is important all staff have the following up to date immunisation: Hepatitis B, Rubella, Varicella and Tuberculosis.
Generally all that is needed is firstly; a letter from your GP confirming you have been vaccinated for Rubella and Tuberculosis (BCG) and that you are immune, and secondly; to arrange a course of immunisation for Hepatitis B followed by a blood test. More detailed information is given below:
Hepatitis B: Required for all staff - If you have not been vaccinated for Hepatitis B, you should contact your GP or an Occupational Health Centre to arrange a course of 3 injections, followed by a blood test. You must give a copy of your blood test results showing adequate levels (titre levels) of immunisation to your Branch Supervisor.
Rubella: In the UK, most people are vaccinated for Rubella (part of the triple MMR vaccine) as a young child. You will need to give us a copy of a letter from your GP confirming you have had it and are immune, or alternatively you can obtain a blood test and provide a copy of the results showing adequate levels of immunisation.
Varicella: If you have completed the health questionnaire stating you have had either chicken pox or shingles, no further action is required. If not, you will need to obtain a blood test to show immunity; should this be negative, you will need a 2 part vaccine and provide a copy of a letter confirming you have been immunised.
Tuberculosis: In the UK most people are vaccinated (BCG) whilst at school, however we will need a letter from you GP confirming vaccination or alternatively you will have to arrange for a ‘Mantoux’ test or an Occupational Health qualified nurse to confirm by inspecting your scar. This can be arranged at Astor Agency Head Office in Knaphill.
As an agency worker on a contract for services, you will have to meet the full
cost of any vaccine, letters, blood tests or scar screening. However, if your
GP is unwilling or unable to assist you, there are many Occupational Health
Centres who can provide the service you need. One such organisation is the Robens
Centre, 4 Huxley Road, The Surrey Research Park, Guildford, Surrey. Telephone
01483 686690. If you have any further questions, please contact your nearest
Astor Agency office.
